Learn how to code, write short stories, or join a professional network. Whatever you decide to do this summer it will be important that you are able to articulate what you did, learned, and developed to future employers. When they look at your resume they may ask you \u201cwhat did you do during the 2020 COVID-19 summer?\u201d, be sure to have an answer ready for them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are the Strommen Career &amp; Internship Center\u2019s top recommendations for self-directed and directed learning this summer:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Self-directed<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read &#8211; history, biographies, local authors, or check out <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/100-books-everyone-should-read-amazon-goodreads-2015-3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Business Insider\u2019s list of 100 books everyone should read in their lifetime<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You could even consider starting a virtual book club.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Focused Reading &#8211; Research and read the books and journals suggested that everyone in your profession should read, ask faculty members for their recommendations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Explore your creative side &#8211; through photography, writing, sewing, knitting, website design, painting, baking, cooking, music, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Start a blog or podcast &#8211; Improve your oral and written communication skills, explore topics of interest, partner with a friend or try it out on your own\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Directed<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Volunteer &#8211; Consider volunteering virtually with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.catchafire.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Catchafire<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
