Reported Offense: Felony Theft

On August 30, 2025, between 5 and 6 am, a felony theft of a student’s owned iPhone, MacBook, driver’s license, credit, and debit card occurred from a student’s dorm room in Mortensen Hall.

Suspect Description

The suspect seen on security footage appeared to be a medium complexion black male, wearing a blue sweatshirt or hoodie and panda ducks which are black and white Nike shoes.�� He was later seen with similar shoes/jeans, wearing a backpack (under his coat).�� The suspect was last viewed on security cameras on the elevator going down to the 1^st��floor where he gets off the elevator and leaves through the basement level doors where he was last seen on video.����

In compliance with the “Timely Warning” provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Campus Security Act, �̲�ֱ�� Department of Public Safety is giving notice of a situation that represents a serious or continuing threat to students and employees of the University. This timely warning aims to provide information to aid the Augsburg community in protecting themselves after a report of a serious crime.

Reported Offense: Felony Theft

On August 19, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Augsburg Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report that there was a felony theft of nine university-owned laptops and personal clothing items from an office space and storage cabinet on the 1^st��floor of Lindell. Based on camera footage, it appears the suspect also attempted to gain entry into several additional offices.

Suspect Description

The suspect seen on security footage appeared to be a medium complexion black male, wearing no shirt, a grey jacket, and clutching a backpack.�� The suspect was last viewed on security cameras walking up the stairs of the Lindell Library and into the Oren Gateway Center.

Status

On July 7, 2025, at approximately 9:15 a.m., the Augsburg Department of Public Safety received a report that there was a photo of an employee on a wall in Anderson Music Hall that had been defaced. The employee reported concerns that their photo was defaced on account of their racial identity. The incident took place sometime between 5:00 p.m. on June 23, 2025, and 10:00 a.m. on July 6, 2025.

At this time, there is no description of a suspect involved in this incident.

On June 14, 2025, at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Augsburg Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report that there was a burglary of an office space on the ground floor of Anderson Residence Hall. Based on camera footage, it appears the suspect also attempted to gain entry into several additional offices.

Suspect Description

The suspect seen on security footage appeared to be a black male, wearing a light-colored sweatshirt with a hood, dark-colored cargo pants, and black shoes with white soles. The suspect was last seen on an e-bike heading westbound on South 8th Street.

• Check the weather daily
• Beware of ice and walk slowly
• Utilize Public Safety escorts when possible
• Dress in layers – warm air gets trapped between the layers, keeping you warmer longer
• Wear sunglasses – the sun reflects off of the ice and snow and can cause your corneas to burn, also known as “snow blindness”
• Staying hydrated by drinking water can help keep you warm – being hydrated increases the amount of blood in your system which helps keep you warmer in cold temperatures
• Drinking alcohol will make you feel artificially warm – if you’ve been drinking alcohol, make sure you’re with a group or let friends know when you’re leaving a bar/house and when you expect to be home
• Know the signs of hypothermia
  • If you are showing symptoms of mild hypothermia (shivering, increased heart rate, rapid shallow breathing), get to a dry warm place and remove any wet clothing, then cover yourself with blankets and/or dry clothes (if you can avoid it, do not lay directly on the ground as this will increase the amount of heat lost through your skin)
  • If you or someone you are with is experiencing symptoms of severe hypothermia (becoming confused, trying to remove warm clothing, fatigued and/or loss of consciousness, weak pulse/breathing) seek medical attention by calling 9-1-1 as soon as possible
• Beware of frostbite
  • If you experience frostbite (discoloration of the skin, skin feels numb or like “pins and needles” poking you) get into a warm area and gently rewarm the affected areas – DO NOT immerse frostbitten skin in hot water, it will cause your skin to burn
  • If you develop blisters in the frostbitten area, remain in pain after the tissue has returned to body temperature or lose feeling in the affected area, seek medical attention immediately
